Mundos imaginarios
Este grabado de Escher "Castillos en el aire" da apariencia icónica a la famosa expresión "hacerse castillos en el aire", esto es, dar credibilidad o confiarse a fantasías y deseos puramente imaginarios.
Una montaña coronada por un castillo se alza por encima de la superficie del mar sobre el que proyecta su sombra, y es invocada por un hombre sentado sobre el caparazón de una gran tortuga flotante, como requiriendo un lugar más habitable. La imagen de esta persona se espeja invertida sobre la superficie del agua.
Los textos acometen el tema de las relaciones entre fantasía y realidad. Los relatos maravillosos parten de la fantasía misma y la ofrecen como la realidad de ese mundo posible. Las narraciones realistas a veces hacen incursiones a los sueños de los personajes o a sus ensoñaciones. Un cierto realismo mágico ofrece versiones sorprendentes de la realidad.
La literatura maravillosa no deja de contener muchos aspectos iguales en sus características a las del mundo real. Los mundos de la ciencia ficción son extrapolaciones de tendencias presentes en nuestra sociedad.
Se dice que la realidad es una construcción de nuestros sentidos que da apariencia de solidez y robustez a algo que está formado de partículas minúsculas y muy separadas entre sí, cuya materialidad desaparece a medida que indagamos en ellas y se conforman como cuantos de energía. Por eso, cada vez más se hace borrosas las fronteras entre lo imaginado y lo real. Y para la conciencia de muchos artistas la llamada realidad desborda todas las previsiones de la mejor fantasía. Hoy tenemos que ubicar de otra manera las complejas relaciones entre real e imaginario, cuya frontera se va haciendo porosa. Nada más fantástico que el realismo ingenuo.
